Old, Yet Still Usable

Isn't she cute? I can see this on a desk to hold hard candies, extra pens or pencils, or perhaps in a bath with flowers spilling out of the top. Many uses beyond the once tiny coffee pot.

It seems like not that long ago (well, maybe 40 years or so) we met a couple that we thought were "old".

4th Grade Missions

This afternoon I got to spend some quality time with my granddaughter "Little A" working on her 4th Grade California Mission project.

Every year the teachers have their students make a mission and every year there are sugar cube missions, missions from shoe boxes, missions that look like their makers were college graduates (perhaps they were), missions that blow your minds.

Anyway, you get the picture. Little A has a great sense of creativity and she sees possibilities where others see roadblocks. She has a goal, especially if it involves crafts... Well, I said I would be happy to let her paint her mission project as I had an overabundance of craft paint from a rock painting phase that I went through some time back. She arrived proudly carrying her project, mounted on a wooden base. Her daddy had helped her cut and glue the buildings together and it really looked like a little paint and she would be on her way.

A few hours later, a few paint spatter clean-ups later, a few burnt fingers on the hot glue gun later, and a whole lot of laughter, fun and time well-spent together, we arrived a whole lot closer to a finished project. Little A still has the dream of an arbor inside the courtyard, possible bells in the towers, and who knows what other creative do-dads that she will come up with.

It was so fun to work together, and I know my own children will say, "hey mom, we didn't get to do craft stuff like this when we were that age" -- to that I say - then I had to clean up and make dinner for 8 after using the kitchen table, counters and all that craft stuff out  - (sorry, no frozen pizzas in the freezer then) -- then I did good to keep my sanity.

You know, I can't remember one of the six missions I helped with...but I think I will remember this one. And the crazy thing is, I didn't take any pictures... Maybe Little A's folks will take pity on me and send me one.

Thanks Mom and Dad for the pictures

Whimsical Wednesday

I can't believe it's Wednesday again.

We have had a few days of recovery from our show/sale in Alameda this last Sunday and it is time to get "crackin'" again.

I have a few pictures of the Alameda sale that I thought I would share.

A side view. Notice the happy shoppers... in the background.I can see that I need to stop taking "landscape" type pictures and more "portrait" type. In my "old school" of photography thinking, when I used film... get in as much as possible because you are going to pay for that picture when it is developed. The age of digital is soooo nice. Just need to change that thinking...

Toy box - sold, bread pans - sold, Mrs Chicken - sold, birdcage on stand - sold,

We called this a kitchen island/work station. It could be used to a sofa table, entry table, all kinds of things. Well last month we had a customer very interested in it, but she wasn't quite sure. Then it had a metal top and we Mr changed it to a wooden top. After many emails, pictues and all, she wanted it for this sale. She said she would be there at 10am. We put a "SOLD" tag on it and it really got a lot of attention.  In fact, we got orders for three more!! All a little different, custom made.

The shoppers are still shopping... that table in the middle is piled with jewelry that I put out later, when I was able to "baby-sit" it. We sold around $250 of just that stuff. Amazing what people find to spend money on. They lose their homes, but they can buy some trinket... well, it helps to pay our bills.

The sun is peeking around the corner, just coming up.

Now, this one probably has to be my all time favorite -- SOLD!

On another note:

Here is a picture of our fellas hanging out after our Bible study on one of our Sunday meetings

Mr D was playing in another area and didn't make this picture. These are our guys and we sure do love them. T=12, E=6, and L=6 months? Wouldn't trade them for anything...

Have a great day

Estate Sale Finds

Just a few pictures of the things we got this morning at an estate sale.  It was a barbershop on one side and a home on the other, side by side. The seller called this a "shot-gun" house. Those of you that are from older homes recognize this term. There were about 30 dealers there. D & T were there with others we have seen off and on through the years. The seller is a dealer herself and we used to be across from her when we sell downtown. We moved to the other block to be closer to D & T (The Vintage Bricoleurs).

I guess you can call this my things. Bowls, blue and white cannisters, pewter candlestick, kitchen tools, milk glass salt and pepper, doilies and two boxes of jewelry.

There are a few nice pieces here, but most of it will go into the $1 bin and even then, I will make my money back and more.
These are so cute. There are six total with the little pepper to boot!  Ever heard of Farina?

These cute little stools and bench only need a little soap and water to make them sellable.

Mr got two of these old hair-cut station cabinets. So neat.

One of the two crocks I got, the other is with the stools.

Well, I hope you are having a good day. As you can see, it is sunny here and we are enjoying it immensely.
